A far north Queensland health group says Indigenous Australians have been forgotten during the federal election.
The Apunipima Cape York Health Council will represent far north Queensland at a remote health summit in Brisbane this weekend that will look at how federal health reforms will affect Indigenous Australians.
The council’s senior medical officer, Dr Mark Wenitong, says big ticket issues like education and the economy are overshadowing the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
“At the end of the day, the one thing that will be with us consistently is this gap in life expectancy, this gap in educational and health and wellbeing outcomes and social outcomes,” he said.
“It needs to be a priority area and both governments need to be clear and put on the table how they are going to continue to progress the area, rather than it being lost.” …Go to article.
