First Nations in Ontario vowed Friday to continue to fight the provincial and federal governments for a complete exemption from paying the new harmonized sales tax, calling it a blatant violation of historic aboriginal treaties.  Two reserves in northern Ontario are planning a railway blockade and tolls on the Trans-Canada Highway in the coming weeks.  Currently, status-Indians are exempt from paying provincial or retail sales tax on any purchases made on or off reserves — but that exemption will not extended toward the new 13-per-cent harmonized sales tax, which combines the eight-per-cent retail sales tax with the five-per-cent GST… go to article
