The Quebec government yesterday signaled its intention to endorse an international document that recognizes aboriginal rights, while pursuing negotiations with Ottawa on the issue. The move came after the opposition Parti Québécois and aboriginal leaders called on the province to sign the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Aboriginal Affairs Minister Pierre Corbeil said his government is going to work with opposition parties to table before the end of the session in June a motion at the National Assembly supporting the declaration.
